Margaret Bird Fashion Apparel I am very much influenced by my environment both natural and manmade. I enjoy the creative process of trying to translate that into beautiful garments using different fabrics, pattern drafting techniques and craft skills. The cape and trousers ensemble was a finalist in the 2014 Hokonui Fashion Awards. I wanted to ‘wrap up’ Gore in some Napier northern warmth and my design is influenced by both areas. Art deco meets Seargent Dan Creamoata Man. My collection is inspired by landscapes. I experimented with pattern drafting techniques to try to capture the textures of the land both natural and manmade forms – soft flowing valleys, precise lines of agriculture, rounded shapes of trees and bushes. The colours and fabrics used were chosen to reflect the summer landscape at dawn and dusk when the contours of the land are most obvious. Golden hills, shadowy valleys and the gorgeous colours of the sky.
